Bonaire beaches, our best 9 picks

Villa Mi Casa » Bonaire beaches, our best 9 picks

Bonaire, in our opinion, is the most enchanting island in the Caribbean Sea. It’s no wonder we decided to buy a vacation home here. Bonaire is known for its crystal-clear waters and pristine beaches, making it a paradise for beach lovers. Let us take you on a digital journey to the 9 best beaches on Bonaire before you visit them yourself. Explore places like Te Amo Beach, No Name Beach, Lac Cai, Pink Sand Beach, Bachelor Beach, and Sorobon Beach.

1. Sorobon Beach

Location: Lac Bay, southeast coast.
Sorobon Beach is one of our favorite beaches. A paradise for windsurfers, the shallow waters, and constant wind make it perfect for both beginners and advanced surfers. We often come here with friends to enjoy the beach and the laid-back beach bars. This beach is about a 15-minute drive from our villa.

Why visit Sorobon Beach?

  • Ideal for windsurfing
  • Friendly atmosphere
  • Stunning sunrise

Tip: Buy your STINAPA pass and rent a windsurf board at Jibe City

2. Te Amo Beach

Location: On the road to Kralendijk.
Te Amo Beach stole our hearts with its calm, turquoise waters and soft sand. We often bring a picnic basket here to enjoy a quiet afternoon. It’s also a great spot for snorkeling. This beach is just a 2-minute drive from Mi Casa Bonaire, only 1.7 kilometers away.

Why visit Te Amo Beach?

  • Excellent snorkeling opportunities
  • Easy access
  • Perfect spot for a picnic

Tip: Don’t forget your snorkeling gear to explore the underwater life right off the beach.

3. Bachelor Beach

Location: South of Kralendijk.
Bachelor Beach is a small, beautiful sandy beach. At high tide, the beach can disappear entirely. Located at the base of a cliff, it’s perfect for snorkeling and diving, not just during the day but also at night. Bachelor Beach is a popular spot for night divers who want to explore marine life with underwater lights, revealing sea creatures not visible during the day… Feeling hungry? Food trucks are often parked at the lot above. You can walk from the villa to Bachelor Beach in 5 minutes.

Why visit Bachelor Beach?

  • Scenic views
  • Excellent snorkeling and diving location
  • Peaceful atmosphere

Tip: Bring an underwater camera to capture the colorful fish and coral.

4. Pink Beach

Location: Southwest coast
Is Pink sand Beach actually pink? Unfortunately, no. The beach has lost its pink color, which it once had, due to broken shells and dead coral. After Hurricane Lenny in 1999, the beach lost its hue, but it remains a beautiful spot. It’s a quiet place with a beach made of fossilized coral. We love lounging here in the sun and soaking in the tropical vibe. Pink Beach is about an 8-minute drive from Mi Casa.

Why visit Pink Beach?

  • Tropical vibe with palm trees
  • Peaceful environment
  • Ideal for relaxation

Tip: Visit Pink Beach in the late afternoon for a mesmerizing sunset.

5. No Name Beach

Location: A beach on the small island, Klein Bonaire.
No Name Beach is located on a tiny Caribbean island just off the coast of Bonaire. The beach is known for its powdery white sands—a must-visit in our opinion. We love this white sand beach for its tranquility combined with the opportunity for relaxed snorkeling and see the colorful coral reef. Take a water taxi to Klein Bonaire from Kralendijk, about a 7-minute drive from Villa Mi Casa.

Why visit No Name Beach?

  • Soft sand, perfect for lounging
  • Peace and quiet
  • Fantastic snorkeling spots

Tip: There are no facilities like restaurants or restrooms on this beach. Bring everything you need for a perfect day out. (If you bring charcoal, you’re allowed to BBQ on the small island)

6. 1000 Steps Beach

Location: Northern coast, above Kralendijk.
Despite the name, 1000 Steps only has 67 steps to get down to the beach. It’s a popular spot for divers and snorkelers due to the rich marine life and clear waters. This is one of Bonaire’s best beaches to spot sea turtles. We often dive here ourselves, and the 67 steps are well worth it. This beach is about a 20-minute drive from Mi Casa.

Why visit 1000 Steps Beach?

  • Unique access via steps
  • Rich marine life
  • Great for diving and snorkeling

Tip: Bring plenty of water and snacks, as there are few facilities at this beach.

7. Playa Frans

Location: Top Northern coast, above Kralendijk.
Playa Frans is a remote, unspoiled beach where nature takes center stage. To get there, you’ll drive down a sandy road leading to this beautiful spot. The shallow, clear waters make Playa Frans ideal for snorkeling. While snorkeling, you’ll encounter a variety of fish, including green moray eels, barracudas, and parrotfish. Inland lies Saliña Frans, a lake surrounded by greenery, where numerous bird species can be spotted. Playa Frans is about a 40-minute drive from Mi Casa Bonaire.

Why visit Playa Frans?

  • Unspoiled nature
  • Variety of wildlife
  • Excellent snorkeling

Tip: Don’t forget you need a STINAPA nature fee to enter the water and visit Washington Slagbaai National Park.

8. Lac Cai Beach

Location: Lac Cai Beach is on the southeastern side of Bonaire.
If you want to escape the crowds and enjoy a beautiful beach, Lac Cai is the place. It’s the opposite of the popular Sorobon Beach on the other side of the lagoon. In the lagoon with its soft sandy bottom and blue waters you can see beautiful starfish and rays. Want a completely different experience? Snorkel through the mangrove forest channels to reach a small lake and encounter the animals living in the mangroves.

Why visit Lac Cai Beach?

  • Soft sand and seagrass bottom
  • Snorkeling in Lac Cai and among the mangroves
  • Peace and beauty

Tip: Check out the piles of conch shells at Lac Cai, but be aware that it’s illegal to take the shells with you.

9. Donkey Beach

Location: Southern coast, near Flamingo airport
Donkey Beach is a popular spot for both locals and tourists. It’s particularly lively on weekends. The clear water is perfect for snorkeling and swimming. With plenty of almond trees, it’s easy to find shade. This beach is just a 5-minute drive from Mi Casa Bonaire, located between Bachelor Beach and Te Amo Beach.

Why visit Donkey Beach?

  • Easily accessible
  • Plenty of shade from the trees
  • Ideal for families

Tip: Get some delicious food, from the food trucks nearby!
